Do this once to get your emails flowing regularly into Honeycomb. It takes 3-5 minutes, but will save you hours!
We’re building a gmail plug-in which will make this easy-peasy.
Using Outlook or Apple Mail? We’ll add forwarding instructions for those services in the future.
From your Honeycomb app, go to the calendar tab, tap on the calendar icon in the upper left, and then tap “Get Worker Bee’s forwarding email”.
It’ll look like:
magic+group-name-etc@workerbee.honeycomb-labs.com
Pull up your school or club’s most recent emails or newsletters: ones intended for your classroom, school, district, team or club –– don’t grab an email intended only for you. Tap on the down arrow by “to me” to get the email’s information. Look for the group email address (e.g. donotreply@parentsquare.com, parents@myschool.org).
Pro tip: it may be in From: or the To: field, as shown in the blue highlights below:
If the username is long but has a “+” in it (see yellow highlight below), just use the part before the “+”. In this example, use donotreply@parentsquare.com
Found it? Proceed to step 3.
🚧 Does your school not use an email group? I.e. do they email you 1:1 directly, or only send emails where you are bcc:ed? Then you’ll need to forward the newsletter each time it arrives to your Honeycomb AI assistant email. We’re working on a gmail plug-in to make this much easier! You can skip the rest of these instructions and stop here. 🛑
In Gmail, go to Settings (then “all settings”), and tap on “Forwarding”:
Tap on the “Add a forwarding address" button, and paste in the Honeycomb AI assistant email you copied from the app. You’ll be asked to confirm, and then told that a confirmation link has been sent to your Honeycomb assistant email. (Note: leave “Disable forwarding” set to on, unless you’ve previously changed it).
This is automated but might take 1-2 minutes.
In Gmail, go to "Filters and Blocked Addresses" in all settings (not back to Forwarding):
Create a filter by tapping “Create a new filter.”
Add the email address that you found in step 2 to the same corresponding field (to: or from:) in the filter you are creating. If your school sends email from or to multiple email addresses, you can add all of them separated by an OR:
You can tap “Search” to confirm you have the addresses correct (check to see your most recent newsletter shows up), but then you’ll want to come back (tap the filter icon) and tap Create Filter to get to the next step.
Once you’ve tapped Create Filter, on the next screen, choose “Forward it to:” and select your Honeycomb AI assistant email from the drop down.
Finally, tap “Create filter” (again) and you’re all set!
Here’s a helpful video walk through by a mom that covers the above, but in a different sequence:
